ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this paper was to determine the profile of dairy product consumers in the organic market.Design/methodology/approachThe study was based on a survey questionnaire developed by the author and administered to a total of 1,108 respondents. The statistical analysis (including descriptive statistics, the analysis of the discriminative function and the Chi2 test was performed with the use of Statistica 13.1 PL. The respondents' gender was the factor behind the differences in how they behaved.FindingsThe consumers indicated the channels they rely upon to find information on organic dairy products;in addition to trusting the opinions of their family members and experts, they also use web platforms. Further, they specified their preferred locations for buying favorite products during the pandemic: specialized organic food shops, large distribution chains and online stores.Practical implicationsThese outcomes will help in identifying target consumer segments and information channels for specific information and advertising messages. They also form an important resource for developing some potential strategies which the supply chain stakeholders could implement to promote organic consumption of dairy products.Originality/valueThis study identifies consumers' preferred dairy products;motives for purchasing organic dairy products;barriers that consumers believe exist in the market;sources of knowledge about products purchased by consumers;and consumers' preferred channels for purchasing organic dairy products. To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first study of dairy product consumers in the organic market in Poland.

ABSTRACT

Ever since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, uncertainty regarding clinical presentation and differences among various subpopulations exist. With more than 209,870,000 confirmed cases and more than 4,400,000 deaths worldwide, we are facing the new era of health crisis which will undoubtedly impair global health, economic and social circumstances. In the past year, numerous genetic mutations which code SARS-CoV-2 proteins led to the occurrence of new viral strains, with higher transmission rates. Apart from the implementation of vaccination, the effect of SARS-CoV-2 on pregnancy outcome and maternal fetal transmission remains an important concern. Although neonates diagnosed with COVID-19 were mostly asymptomatic or presented with mild disease, the effect on early pregnancy is yet to be evident. While positive finding of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in some samples such as amniotic fluid, placental tissue, cord blood and breast milk exists, additional research should confirm its association with transplacental transmission.Copyright © 2022, Dr. Mladen Stojanovic University Hospital. ABSTRACT

Objectives: A 7-month-old boy presented with generalized urticaria since the first week of life, without any other clinical manifestation. Cow's milk allergy was ruled out. His development was normal for his age. Maternal history was significant for COVID-19 infection in the third trimester of pregnancy with mild symptoms. Family history was significant for dermatographism in a maternal uncle. Hives were migratory with no single lesion persisting more than 24 h. There were no recognizable triggers and only relieved for 1-2 days after each vaccination. Patient was treated with optimal doses of antihistamines without improvement. Method(s): Laboratory tests and further studies were performed Results: Laboratory tests were normal including complete blood testing, circulating autoantibodies and infectious studies. C-reactive protein level and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were elevated. Due to chronic urticaria of newborn onset unresponsive to antihistamines a monogenic autoinflammatory disease was suspected. A targeted gene panel covering causative genes revealed the unreported p.Gly307Ala variant in the NLRP3 gene with a variant allele frequency (VAF) of 3% compatible with gene mosaicism. NLRP3 variant was classified as "likely pathogenic" based on its location, where a different variant has been reported as causing a severe form of cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS), and bioinformatic analyses. As expected, the variant was absent in patient's parents supporting for its de novo nature. Vision and hearing exams were normal. Treatment with canakinumab will start soon. Discussion(s): CAPS are dominantly-inherited autoinflammatory diseases caused by gain-of-function NLRP3 variants. These variants are often germline, but in some reported cases the variants are postzygotic causing gene mosaicism as in the patient here described. We believe that the mild presentation in our patient, despite having a likely pathogenic variant, may be explained by the low VAF. The genetic diagnosis in our patient allowed early initiation of anti-IL-1 treatment, which probably will prevent the development of other CAPS manifestations.

ABSTRACT

Background: Many aspects of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV2) pandemic in 2019 have been unclear, especially in newborns, and reports of neonatal diseases are usually associated with perinatal infection. Objective(s): The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and para-clinical manifestations in newborns that contracted the infection after birth. Method(s): This observational research was conducted from October 2020 to March 2022 to examine postnatal SARSCoV2 infection in infants admitted to the NICU or neonatal ward at the Children's Medical Center in Tehran, Iran. Inclusion in the study was open to neonates who had positive RT-PCR results postnatally. Result(s): In total, 55 newborns were confirmed to have postnatal SARSCOV2. Fever was the most frequently observed symptom, with 35 (61%). Necrotizing enterocolitis was seen in 18% of neonates, and 30% of them were preterm. Neutropenia was seen in 34% of cases, with five cases having severe neutropenia. All neonates had a normal platelet count. Twenty percent of patients showed C-reactive protein higher than 6 mg/L. Two newborns had co-existing bacterial urinary tract infections. Our neonates didn't require antiviral, anticoagulant, or corticosteroid medications, and they recovered while receiving only supportive care. Everyone in the group of newborns was discharged without complications, and there were no deaths. Conclusion(s): The high rate of fever, high C-reactive protein, and neutropenia in SARSCoV2 neonates suggests that more observational research is needed to compare these symptoms to bacterial sepsis to avoid the overuse of antibiotics in these patients.Copyright © 2023, Author(s).

Cumulative data regardingCOVID-19 infection during pregnancy have demonstrated the ability of SARS-CoV-2 to infect the placenta. However, the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 placental viral entry are yet to be defined. SARS-CoV-2 infects cells by binding to the ACE2 receptor. However, SARS-CoV-2 cell entry also requires co-localization of spike protein cleavage by the serine protease TMPRSS2. However, the co-expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 in placental cells is debated, raising the question of whether potential non-canonical molecular mechanismsmay be involved in SARS-CoV-2 placental cells' viral entry. Although published data regarding the ability of the SARS-CoV- 2 to infect the fetus are contradicting, the placenta appears to be an immunological barrier to active SARS-CoV-2 infection and vertical transmission;however, the mechanism is unclear. Our experiments demonstrated the ability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to directly infect the placenta and induce transcriptomic responses in COVID-positive mothers. These transcriptomic responses were characterized by differential expression of specific mRNAs and miRNAs associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, with induction of specific placental miRNAs that can inhibit viral replication. Failure in such mechanisms may be associated with vertical transmission. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have been widely used to reduce the morbidity and mortality of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Historically, non-live vaccines have not caused any harm to pregnant mothers;however, it is unclear whether our current understanding of the effects of non-live vaccines serves as a reliable precedent owing to the novel technology used to create these mRNA vaccines. Since there are no definitive data on the possible biodistribution of mRNA vaccines to the placenta, the likelihood of vaccine mRNA reaching the fetus remains uncertain. Little has been reported on the tissue localization of the lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) after intramuscular (IM) administration of the mRNA vaccine. The biodistribution of LNPs containing the mRNA vaccine has been investigated in animal models but not humans. In the murine model, the vaccine LNPs were rapidly disseminated to several organs, including the heart, liver, kidney, lung, and spleen, following IM administration. However, no traditional pharmacokinetic or biodistribution studies have been performed with the mRNA vaccines, including possible biodistribution to breast milk or the placenta.

Ab s t r ac t Aim: The aim of this study was to summarize different types of benefits that have been observed in the baby's development and the mother's psychological health during the postpartum period. Background(s): Breastfeeding is a natural process that plays a vital role in the physical as well as mental health of the mother and child. Breast milk is rich in contents such as proteins, fats, and vitamins, which are responsible for building the immune system of the baby. Lactation helps in decreasing the prevalence of infant mortality rate. It enhances the development of the physical health of the children. Breastfeeding protects the mother from many systemic conditions like endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, etc. It has been observed that with an increase in healthy breastfeeding practices, there is a decline in the cases of maternal mental health issues reported mainly in the postpartum period. Review result: The authors have explained various types of advantages of breastfeeding on the child's and mother's health, their mechanism of action, effects on the baby, and mother-child relationship. Conclusion(s): The mother's mental health plays a crucial role in a healthy infant, and breastfeeding is key to it. The role of breastfeeding is therefore considered a boon for the mother because if there is a decrease in health issues in the child, the mother's mental condition improves automatically. Therefore, breastfeeding should be promoted at the national level. Clinical significance: Breastfeeding not only helps in reducing maternal stress and postpartum depression but also improves the physical health of the child and mother during the postpartum period. The clinicians should teach mothers about the importance and also the correct positions of breastfeeding. ABSTRACT

Donated human milk is the best substitute for breast milk in the case when the mother cannot feed her baby. Human milk banks provide safe and high quality donated human milk. That was the reason why the Human Milk Bank was established in the Croatian Tissue and Cell Bank at the Zagreb University Hospital Centre in January 2020. The Bank works in accordance with the Law on the Application of Human Tissues and Cells. In this paper, we present the results of the Bank work since from its opening until June 2020. Due to logistic reasons caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and the earthquake in Zagreb, the Human Milk Bank did not collect milk for 43 days. Milk was donated by 31 mothers. Their median age was 31 years and 81% of them had high education level. In 52% of cases, mothers started donating milk three months after giving birth. Most donors donated milk only once (45%). The median period of donation was 46 days. The majority (52%) of donors gave birth for the first time, in the expected term of childbirth (94%), birth weight was >2500 g. Only three of donors' children (9%) were in intensive care. A total of 175.5 L of milk were collected (mean 5.7 L per donor), of which 151.5 L met the requirements of input quality control, and 141 L were pasteurized. A critical number of viable aerobic and facultative bacteria were identified in 32.6% of milk pools prepared for pasteurization, and 8.9% after pasteurization. For clinical use, 78.7 L were dispensed in three neonatal intensive care units. The Human Milk Bank has already shown the importance of its activities during the first months of operation. In order to be able to meet the needs for donated human milk at the national level, it is necessary to constantly inform mothers about the importance of human milk and to promote its donation.Copyright © 2020 Croatian Paediatric Society. BACKGROUND: The current pandemic and the concerns of vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 have contributed to increasing the rate of breastfeeding interruption. This tendency has been associated with negative effects on the well-being of lactating mothers and their infants. The aim of this review is to summarize the evidence on the strategies to support breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic and on the safety of breastfeeding during a SARS-CoV-2 infection or after COVID-19 vaccination. SUMMARY: Available data show that the lack of support of lactating mothers during the pandemic has contributed to breastfeeding cessation worldwide. However, a few strategies have been proposed to overcome this issue. The risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission from infected mothers to their offspring is extremely low. Furthermore, vaccination of lactating mothers is not associated with side effects in their infants. Key Messages: Increasing effort should be made to support breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mothers who are able to take care of their offspring and to adopt basic hygiene measures should not interrupt breastfeeding during a SARS-CoV-2 infection. Vaccination of lactating mothers might further strengthen the protective effect of breastfeeding against infections.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the freeze-drying process on the preservation of mare's milk. This was achieved through the characterization of the functional properties of reconstituted freeze-dried mare's milk. The chemical composition, bulk density, foam capacity, and ability to form emulsions of the atherogenic, thrombogenic, and hypercholesterolemic fatty acid index were investigated. The freeze-drying process did not change the proportion of the milk components in the dry matter. The moisture content of the freeze-dried mare's milk was 10.3 g/kg and the bulk was below 0.1 g/mL. The foaming capacity was 111.3%; hence, the foaming capacity of the milk was very poor. The oil binding capacity was 2.19 g/g of protein. The freeze-drying process improves the binding degree and retention of oil by milk proteins, but produced foam was unstable, short-lived, and lacked the ability to retain air fractions. The atherogenic index and thrombogenic index values calculated for reconstituted milk were 1.02 and 0.53, respectively. The hypercholesterolemia fatty acid index was 25.01.

ABSTRACT

The Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) hypothesis describes how maternal stress exposures experienced during critical periods of perinatal life are linked to altered developmental trajectories in offspring. Perinatal stress also induces changes in lactogenesis, milk volume, maternal care, and the nutritive and non-nutritive components of milk, affecting short and long-term developmental outcomes in offspring. For instance, selective early life stressors shape the contents of milk, including macro/micronutrients, immune components, microbiota, enzymes, hormones, milk-derived extracellular vesicles, and milk microRNAs. In this review, we highlight the contributions of parental lactation to offspring development by examining changes in the composition of breast milk in response to three well-characterized maternal stressors: nutritive stress, immune stress, and psychological stress. We discuss recent findings in human, animal, and in vitro models, their clinical relevance, study limitations, and potential therapeutic significance to improving human health and infant survival. We also discuss the benefits of enrichment methods and support tools that can be used to improve milk quality and volume as well as related developmental outcomes in offspring. Lastly, we use evidence-based primary literature to convey that even though select maternal stressors may modulate lactation biology (by influencing milk composition) depending on the severity and length of exposure, exclusive and/or prolonged milk feeding may attenuate the negative in utero effects of early life stressors and promote healthy developmental trajectories. Overall, scientific evidence supports lactation to be protective against nutritive and immune stressors, but the benefits of lactation in response to psychological stressors need further investigation.

ABSTRACT

Background: Institutions across the country are experiencing delays in receipt of essential infant formula and feeding supplies due to a supply chain crisis. The supply chain crisis commenced during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued into present day, late 2022. The supply chain crisis led to an unstable supply of ready to feed (RTF) infant formulas for a children's hospital within a medical center containing a neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU, pediatric floor and newborn nursery. RTF formulas are the recommended inpatient infant feeding due to their sterility. Method(s): To address these RTF formula supply challenges, interprofessional leadership from Clinical Nutrition, Nursing and Supply Chain developed a local infant formula committee. The committee convened based on the needs of the institution, ranging from daily to weekly beginning October 2021 to present day. A shared, live spreadsheet allowed for real time inventory of RTF formula on the Nursing units and amount of product pending receipt in supply chain. Upon identification of low RTF supply, increased usage or RTF outage, the committee implemented a three-tiered action plan for each unit. For the first tier, the formula roomdiluted a higher calorie RTF liquid with water to the desired calorie density (example RTF 24 to RTF 20 calorie/oz). The medical team had an infant formula substitution list to guide feeding alternatives for specialty preparations. In the second tier, the formula room prepared stock formula for each unit daily, with a 24-hour expiration time, to accommodate potential for rapid census changes outside of the formula room operation. As a third layer of safety, powder emergency stock was pre-measured and sent with instructions for Nursing to reconstitute with sterile water, in a dedicated space, if all stock RTF formula was used. The powder emergency stock expired in 30 days, which allowed for a longer shelf life than the stock RTF formula. Result(s): It is practical for institutions without a formula room to implement similar processes using dedicated infant formula preparation space and storage. It also worth mentioning during this time there was a national shortage of powdered infant formulas due to a recall issued in May of 2022 by a major formula manufacturer. The national shortage included elemental powdered formulas for which there is no RTF alternative. Management of elemental formula outages were managed on a case-by-case basis by the Clinical Nutrition department. The Committee also convened to discuss allocations and identify substitutions for other neonatal and pediatric specialty items including sterile water, feeding preparation bottles, ENFit syringes and syringe caps, breastmilk collection containers and infant feeding nipples. Conclusion(s): Using this three-tiered process, the medical center provided sterile RTF formula to infants when available, remained consistent with best practices, predicted inventory needs consistent with usage and prevented waste of powdered infant formula in a time of scarcity. Technology and the anticipatory interprofessional leadership using a three-tiered action plan equipped the medical center for this most extraordinary infant formula crisis nationally.

Dairy production systems in Ecuador have been studied in the last 10 years. During the Covid-2019 pandemic, the entire human society was harmed and agricultural activities affected by the disease and by the restrictions implemented to prevent its spread. The dairy industry did not escape this global situation and was affected in various countries. Reports from Ecuador and Asian countries indicate the unfavorable effect that this global health emergency situation had on dairy production. However, according to a report by the Argentine Dairy Chain Observatory1, world milk production had a constant growth of around 3%. It is considered that the activities carried out by veterinarians, milking and animal handling operators, inseminators and by the personnel dedicated to the management of paddocks were affected by Covid-19. Likewise, the supply of medicines, agricultural inputs and technology had a critical situation due to the pandemic. In addition, the response times were not always adequate, especially due to the absenteeism of livestock personnel, human mortality and effects on the health and well-being of people . Therefore, it is of interest to investigate the effects the pandemic could have on the country's cattle farms. The objective of this work was to evaluate whether the pandemic period affected milk production per hectare per year in Ecuadorian herds.

During the last decade, feeding patterns, more specifically those of children, have worsened-affecting dietary habits and Mediterranean diet adherence. Here, we examine the post-pandemic feeding habits of Spanish toddlers. A total of 2465 parents of children aged between 12 and 36 months completed an online 25-item multiple-choice survey asking about dietary habits and Mediterranean diet adherence. Only 34 children (1.38%) had an adequate intake of all of the food groups included in the questionnaire. Adherence worsened as toddlers grew (p < 0.0001). Further, lower compliance was found in children with a higher intake of fast food (p < 0.001), those with siblings (p = 0.0045), and children who were the second or third child (p = 0.0005). The food group with the most commonly reported adequate intake was fish (88% of children), followed by pulses (80%), water (79%), and meat (78%). Cow's milk was the most commonly consumed dairy product among all age groups analyzed. Half of the children exhibited a low consumption of milk and dairy products. These results showed that a lack of adherence to a balanced diet is common among Spanish toddlers in the post-pandemic period and that greater parent education could improve the nutrition of toddlers.

ABSTRACT

Influenza D virus (IDV) has been detected in bovine respiratory disease (BRD) outbreaks, and experimental studies demonstrated this virus's capacity to cause lesions in the respiratory tract. In addition, IDV-specific antibodies were detected in human sera, which indicated that this virus plays a potential zoonotic role. The present study aimed to extend our knowledge about the epidemiologic situation of IDV in Swedish dairy farms, using bulk tank milk (BTM) samples for the detection of IDV antibodies. A total of 461 and 338 BTM samples collected during 2019 and 2020, respectively, were analyzed with an in-house indirect ELISA. In total, 147 (32%) and 135 (40%) samples were IDV-antibody-positive in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Overall, 2/125 (2%), 11/157 (7%) and 269/517 (52%) of the samples were IDV-antibody-positive in the northern, middle and southern regions of Sweden. The highest proportion of positive samples was repeatedly detected in the south, in the county of Halland, which is one of the counties with the highest cattle density in the country. In order to understand the epidemiology of IDV, further research in different cattle populations and in humans is required.

This research is important because milk production is considered as an activity of nutritional, social and economic importance in Kosovo. Cow's milk dominates the production of raw milk in Kosovo. Dairy cows (about 132,500 heads) produce 277,599 tons of milk. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of Covid-19 on the performance of cow milk producers in Kosovo. It was used descriptive and quantitative survey. The random sampling technique was used to select respondents from a 242 dairy farms in the seven regions of Kosovo (Gjilan, Prishtina, Ferizaj, Peja, Gjakova, Prizren, and Mitrovica). Interviews have included the farms with the capacity of 5-120 dairy cows. Data on milk production, sales and farm incomes for each farm were recorded during the period of January-April 2021 and the comparison was made for a calendar year with that of 2019/2020. The average milk produced by farmers per year was 73052.94 liters in 2019, and it decreased to 71255.27 liters in 2020. In 2020, 93.1% of farmers said they have not been able to sell all the milk they produced, on average the surveyed farms could not sell milk at all in the amount of 12503.43 liters per year in 2020, and this represents an increase of 275 times compared to the amount of the previous year where there was only 45.38 liters per year of unsold milk destined for the market. The average farm revenues from milk were € 13892.37 in 2020, while in 2019 it was considerably higher, with an average of 19881.49 € per farm. Farmers reported that the restrictive measures taken as a result of Covid-19 have affected milk production negatively in terms of sales, revenues and returns. Advisory services should sensitize farmers to farm diversification so that losses from such situations as pandemics are kept to a minimum. © 2023, Consulting and Training Center - KEY. ABSTRACT

Since COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increasing of people adopting a healthy lifestyle through health supplement and functional foods. This study aimed to develop turmeric milk which has high antioxidant activity that can be accepted by the community. The difference in the concentration of turmeric powder added (0.9%, 1.9%, and 2.8%) was carried out to determine the antioxidant activity by DPPH method and the curcumin level by HPLC method. Hedonic tests were used to evaluate the effect of turmeric powder into consumer acceptance. Results showed that the addition of turmeric is lowering the hedonic value. Turmeric milk with 2.8% turmeric powder had the highest levels of curcumin (53.95 mg/260 mL) and antioxidant activity (90.51%) but had the lowest acceptance rate (4.02) while turmeric milk with 0.9% of turmeric powder) had the lowest levels of curcumin (25.28 mg/260 mL) and antioxidant activity (81.76%) but had the highest acceptance rate (4.97). ABSTRACT

Background: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly disseminated worldwide, with a wide variety of clinical manifestations ranging from mild respiratory symptoms to severe pneumonia. Since then, there have been over 62300396 cases of COVID-19 infections worldwide, with 6550033 deaths. Coronavirus disease has presented the world to uncertainty and clinical dilemma with developing and constantly changing management guidelines and protocols. In the backdrop of this pandemic, it thus becomes crucial to study the effects of the infection on pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. In this study, we analyzed experiences of breastfeeding mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically concerning how COVID-positive status affected their infant's feeding decisions. Objective(s): To study anxiety, fear and depression associated with breastfeeding in coronavirus disease (COVID)-positive mothers. Method(s): The following DASS scale was used to measure depression anxiety, and stress of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) among postpartum women along with a self-made breastfeeding questionnaire to assess the association with breastfeeding. Result(s): Among the total of 77 respondents, 13% showed symptoms of depression, 16% anxiety and 9% stress. The breastfeeding questionnaire suggested that most women are afraid of transmitting the infection to their newborns and they lack the knowledge about the importance of breast milk in warding off other infections. Also, women found it difficult to take care of their newborns on their own. Conclusion(s): With this study, we could determine the effects of this pandemic on anxiety depression, and stress levels of COVID infection in postpartum women. It clearly showed that being COVID positive created, affected, and exacerbated mental health issues for mothers. So, there is an urgent need to provide emotional and psychosocial support to this group of the population during the crisis. Otherwise, the adverse outcome is possible involving both mother and newborn.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the article is to present the financial condition of selected dairy cooperatives using ratio analysis and selected discriminant models. The main objective of the paper is to assess the overall financial condition of dairy cooperatives during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021) and earlier years (2017-2019). The author focused, on the one hand, on the assessment of the financial condition of a selected group and, on the other hand, on the link between the financial situation of selected dairy cooperatives and state aid during the changing economic reality caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus. The financial analysis for dairy cooperatives also reveals a broader comparative context in the time span before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research shows that the analysed dairy cooperatives, with the exception of OSM Jasienica Rosielna, did not have a negative financial results.

ABSTRACT

Breast milk is generally accepted as the perfect source of nutrition for the health and development of infants. It also assists in infant innate and adaptive immunity through many proteins that are decorated with glycans. Examples of these glycoproteins include IgA, IgG, and innate immune lectins. Maternal diet and environmental exposure such as pathogens and pollutants affect human milk composition including its glycoprofile. Despite altered glycosylation can have a consequence on the nursing infant's health and immunity, the current knowledge is still emerging in this area of study. COVID-19 has gained attention in recent years by causing severe morbidity and mortality. Similar to other infectious diseases such as influenza, our lab recently revealed alterations in glycome of plasma and different tissue samples of COVID-19 infected patients. Inspired by these findings, we are interested in disclosing the effect of SARS-CoV-2 on glycosylation of breast milk proteins. Toward this, we performed a large-scale systematic study using our high-throughput lectin microarray analysis technology. We analyzed 132 control samples (breast milk collected pre- COVID) and breast milk from 78 COVID-19 infected mothers. Our data showed there is a 4-fold increase in -2,3 sialic acid on glycoproteins that is associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in lactating mothers. Lectin pulldown experiments further testified to these findings. Given the significance of -2,3 sialic acid glycan signature in infectious diseases, our finding could provide valuable insight into therapeutic development.Copyright © 2023 The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.
